Why Bagatelle?
This is a picture of the original Bagatelle house in Barbados in the West Indies. Gerry's father and Patrick's grandfather was raised in this house.
This plantation house/restaurant has quite a history and is listed as a heritage home by the Barbados National Trust. The word 'bagatelle' in French means trifle. In 1877 the owner could no longer afford to maintain the plantation, so he paid a gambling debt and traded his home to erase his debt. To maintain his dignity, he declared that the home was a 'bagatelle.'
Most of us don't know of the word Bagatelle. Pat and Gerry chose this name for their company so that you would not come with any preconceived notions. Once you have been served by us, your memories and views of Bagatelle will be yours.
